The Forever Dog is a book everyone should have on their bookshelf, especially those of us who want to give the best care to our dog. It is for the layman and so is easy to read and understand. What I find helpful is that it explains the concepts and the information is based on scientific research. References are given so we can read further if we wish. The information is often derived from human medical studies so much of the information can be used for the owner's own health too. The book also covers not only the basic diet and medical health but how our environment and behaviour affect our pets' health because they are nearer the ground and can pick up toxins which we might not, their bodies are smaller than ours so what may not harm us can badly endanger them and how important it is to give them enough proper exercise. It also gives practical advice on how to care for our dog without breaking the bank.
As the book is undoubtedly very thick and some may find it heavy going in terms of remembering all the information, the chapters are clearly labelled so that we can also dip into specific topics if we don't have time.
I bought my copy when it first was published and have found it has helped me understand how dogs grow and what they need for a healthy life. The book covers "new" research which even some vets are unaware of. The book's resources have helped me support my vet and advocate for my dog with more confidence. It was pricey but money well spent.
The copy I bought was for a friend who has recently gotten a new pup so that my friend can also have the tools to ensure the pup lives as long and as healthily as possible.
The Barkery Singapore team ensured that both books arrived in excellent condition. I was also glad that they carried it at their store as it was difficult to order a copy when it first came out. Ordering the book from them has made it so convenient to obtain a copy as not every bookstore carries the book.
